The day has finally come that I am relaunching Life of a Southern Girl! This dream started over a decade ago when I was living in Florida, trying to find an outlet that would allow me to add a little creativity to my life. I tabled the idea, trying to figure out where to start or if anyone would even want to listen to what I had to say. Fast forward to 2017, and the first launch of the blog began. I focused on only recipes, mostly recreating the ones I found in my Mamaw’s recipe box. I loved every minute of it because it allowed me to relive the times when I was a little girl, sitting at her kitchen table, watching her cook. In 2018, life changed. We adopted our son in what was a rapid adoption. Finding out thirty days before his due date meant we had many things to prepare.

Balancing a new baby, a full-time job, and a blog was too much for this new mama. Therefore, Life of a Southern Girl became yet another dream of mine. It was a dream that stayed at the forefront of my mind, and I wondered if that was all it would ever be—just a dream. I would sit for hours reading other blogs, watching others find success, and doubting myself. “Life of a Southern Girl” was a dream I started in my mid-twenties. Now that I’ve turned 39, I’m on my way to the big 4-0, and I ask myself, “Can I still be The Life of a Southern Girl when I’m almost 40?”
Then I started listening to a new podcast, and it felt like this woman was speaking to me every week. She said everything I needed to hear about dreaming no matter your age, taking a chance and getting off your bottom, and stopping making excuses for yourself. Mel Robbins is her name. If you need to listen to or follow her on Instagram, I highly recommend you do that. She’s the honest voice that I didn’t know I needed.
So now that you’re here, reading this initial post, you may wonder what I’m going to see here, what I’ll learn, and what I’ll gain. This new version of Life of a Southern Girl doesn’t have a direction yet, and that’s OK. There is so much I want to write about and share. I can’t promise a streamlined theme because I’m still growing with this blog. I do know, though, that it’s a place to be where the writer speaks from the heart. She isn’t the best chef, interior designer, or fashionista, but rather a mom, wife, daughter, and friend talking about the things she enjoys. You’ll find old and new recipes and posts about keeping yourself grounded in this hectic and hostile world. You’ll come across old towns in the South and families you may not have heard of but who have made an impact in their own way. There will be times when I share my home design or my thoughts on fashion. It will become a place for all a southern girl may want to know.
Thank you for being here, and I can’t wait to share this journey with y’all.
